Three fairs and a freebie

10/24/2014 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

Hello Folks. Have you, like me, been wowed by the fall colors this year? I don’t know whether the foliage is more exceptional this year than in previous ones. It seems to me it is. But then I also wonder whether it’s me that’s changed, gotten older and more sentimental, and more aware of the fleeting colors and birdsong and our remarkable natural world. Anyway, I’ve been trying to write some difficult pages and I’m easily distracted by the beauty outside my window (Glimpse of Solace).

Chicago writers and readers should be aware of three upcoming and oh-so fun bookfairs. Readers will get a chance to support the independent presses in the area. Writers/publishers may want to sell their work at the events.

First up is the Curbside Splendor Pop Up Bookfair, November 9, from 1 to 6 pm, at The Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western in Chicago. In addition to books, brews and bands will be there for your enjoyment.

Next on Saturday, November 15 is the Second Annual Indie Book Fair in Lake Forest at the Re/Invent Gallery.  Open from 10 am to 5 pm, this Book Fair is organized by Lake Forest author Mary Driver-Thiel.

Then on Saturday, December 6, from 11 am to 5 pm, is the Chicago Book Expo, which will be held at Columbia College, 1104 S. Wabash in Chicago.

Now for the freebie. Submissions are sought for the Chicago Reader’s 15th Annual Pure Fiction Issue. There is no submission fee and submissions will be taken until November 15.

Now, I must get back to it.

Peace, love, and solace
