I went down to Fourth Presbyterian Church on Michigan Avenue and Chestnut to say good-bye to Ernie Banks. I am so glad I did. After I viewed the casket and we went to the pews, I said my thanks to him. It is odd to me that pictures are taken at a church, of a casket, but since everyone else was doing it, I took my camera out too. Hey there sports fans. If you are into baseball, I‘ve got to think you’re mourning the death of the great Ernie Banks, #14. His face as a rookie ballplayer, which graced the front pages of the papers in Chicago, is something to behold: there’s a purity there not seen often. It shines through. Beautiful. The first dozen: Don’t believe everything you think
It’s already the 12th so I guess I have to admit the holidays are over. The Epiphany has come and gone, I’ve eaten the last of the Christmas caramels, and this past weekend was the Wade get-together (there were 71 of us, spanning in age from 1 to 78 years).
