Hot links to new writing by SISMW contributors (and more)

08/26/2015 By Ellen Beals

Good day!  Hope life is treating you well.

Concerned about the stock market? You may want to read Elizabeth Kerlikowske’s poem “The Two Worlds”  on the The New Verse News today (August 26, 20015).

There’s a whole section of poetry by E. Michael Desilets at the VerseWrights site; his latest to be posted is “Sidetrack’s Last Haircut.”

Chicago-Writers-ConferenceThe Chicago Writers Conference is coming up–September 25-27.

Did I mention Donna Hilbert has five poems (“Mother in Satin,” “Queens,” “Mother Tongue,” “Catching her Dance, and “Gravity”) on Verse-Virtual.

51Xpt9b92VL._SX322_BO1,204,203,200_Joan Corwin’s story “Hindsight” (in a condensed version) appears in the new anthology (AFTER)life: Poems and Stories of the Dead, out in July from Purple Passion Press.  A look at the list of contributors shows Ellen Bass also has work in the book. The collection was edited Renee M. Schell, Marta Svea Wallien, and Barbara Froman, who is a friend to SISMW.

Did I tell you that Wally Swist has a new chapbook of poems out from Finishing Line; it is titled “Things I Know I Love: Odes to Food.“

Also from Finishing Line is “Edgewater,” the chapbook by Arthur Powers.

The September issue of The Atlantic has a lot to offer, such as the article by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt, titled  “The Coddling of the American Mind.”

I am an Alice McDermott fan so I particularly enjoyed “These Short, Dark Days” in the August 24 issue of The New Yorker.

Ellen Bass has a love poem “The Small Country” in this same issue of  The New Yorker–it will melt the ice in your sawdust heart.

You can read Deborah Black’s “Table for Two: Interview with T. C. Boyle” at Bill and Dave’s Cocktail Hour.

Peace, love, and solace
