Much I don’t about Franzen

Much I don’t about Franzen

I give up.  I spent the past few days trying to write a blog that was witty and timely. I wanted it to be smart like an essay by Roxane Gay. More on contributors–Swist, Malone, Boyle, Meno, Somlo

I'm glad never to be caught up to date on reporting the news from Solace in So Many Words contributors because that means they are getting new publications every day.  But it also could mean I haven't paid attention to all my emails and news. So last week when I said I gave you the latest, well, I missed a few things.  At the reading at Woman Made Gallery I spoke with a woman in the audience and she said "March Wind" by Wally Swist was her favorite poem, and I could see why. … [Read more...]

7/21 Event a Winner!

7/21 Event a Winner!

Our most recent event was a record-breaker in terms of attendance and sales! The BookMarket in The Glen Town Center has a gem of a performance space and it was packed.  Rick, the assistant manager and gracious host who made us feel welcome, put out 50 chairs and still there were people in the couches and chairs at the outer edges of the room. The readings began when Pat Rahmann, who is known for her plays and novels, gave us "Last Trip Together", a poem she told us, … [Read more...]

07/03/2011 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

July brings the latest review for Solace in So Many Words -- this one is from the Midwest Book Review: California Bookwatch in which we appear in the front page list of "reviewer's choices" with a dozen or so other books, including ones by Bill Moyers and  Sloane Crosley. Here is the link. Here's the review: Solace in So Many Words offers an anthology seeking to define the nature of solace, and offering a collection of literary reflections on what solace means and how … [Read more...]

Our latest review

06/24/2011 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

We got a new review on the anglobaptist.org blog, which is subtitled “conjectural navel gazing; jesus in lint form” and is written by Tripp Hudgins.  I have copied it below –  Weighed Words appreciates the nice remarks and promotion! A review: Solace in So Many Words Where or when do you go when you are seeking solace? Are there stories you tell or memories you hold dear? Personally I go right for poetry. But when one is looking for solace we're likely to look … [Read more...]
