It’s another chilly one, but before I can complain about Chicago weather, I only have to look at pictures from Buffalo, NY, where more than five feet of snow blankets the city and more is predicted. That shuts me up. Besides I don’t really want to post about the weather but literary news. First about Solace in So Many Words contributors. Brent Calderwood is featured in OUT Magazine (as one of OUT 100)—congrats! Kathleen Kirk’s poem “Daughter of Midas” has been … [Read more...]
Artist’s failings, a new review, and contributor news (Somlo, Calderwood)
I am peeking at you from the crest of Thursday, September 11, to say hello and tell you I’ve returned to my post. My hiatus was great (I've posted some pics in Glimpse of Solace). Hope the summer had some high points for you. One recent Facebook craze is to be tagged to name your ten favorite or life-changing books. More September news: Adamkiewicz, Calderwood, Kirk, Bass, Swist (and me)
We had a mild winter and early spring and summer so I guess that is why fall seems to be coming a little early too. We've been treated to some gorgeous days. Wrap up the old and unwrap the new
I've been putting off writing this blog, concentrating instead on the holidays and goofing off. But I wanted to tell you what the contributors have been up to because they have been busy. And, I wanted to tell you the latest about Solace in So Many Words even though I haven't been busy, exactly. First to tell you about my busy contributors. Arthur Powers ("Jardim Zological") emailed me back in November to say his short story "Thom" was nominated for a Pushcart Prize by … [Read more...]
Kudos to contributors: Calderwood, Desilets, Kirk, McConnell, Somlo
As I write this I am thinking of Brent Calderwood -- tonight is his big night. Brent's poem, "The Golden Hour," has been selected by judge Mark Doty as winner of the Atlanta Queer Lit Broadside Contest. Brent will be accepting his award and reading his poem at annual festival's opening ceremony in Atlanta tonight (Friday, June 25) A broadside of the poem will be published by the festival and made available for sale. Here is what Mark Doty had to say: "This beautiful poem … [Read more...]
