Literary event not to be missed

Long time, no post. No excuse except to say I, like so many people, have been overwhelmed with current events. But one upcoming event I want you to know about is the launch of Rochelle Distelheim’s new novel, Jerusalem as a Second Language.  Rochelle was a friend and mentor and fellow member of The Writers, and she passed away this summer. So this event is a book launch and also a celebration of her life. The virtual event is this Sunday, October, 4 at 2 pm.. You can … [Read more...]

You will fall in love with Sadie too

Congrats to Rochelle Distelheim! Her debut novel, Sadie in Love, is now out from Aubade Publishing. The book launch is this Sunday at The Book Stall in Winnetka. Back in 2014 Rochelle let me share her short-short story "The Kiss-Me-Quick" on this site. If you’d like some more literary treats, visit Rochelle’s website where you can sample several of her fiction pieces. (Then go buy her book.)   Peace, love, and solace   … [Read more...]

Literary wanderings

Literary wanderings

Here’s where my literary curiosity has taken me lately. First, I’ve been reading some of the Lord Peter Whimsey books Dorothy L. Sayers.  They’re like delicious candy but then amongst the sweet something sour and bitter surfaces, and that is the racial and religious epithets used in those days (1920s and 1930s).  In one way I think it’s great we don’t use those words any more, but then I remember the Redskins. The new U.S. Poet Laureate, Charles Wright did an interview … [Read more...]

Looking back, looking forward

Looking back, looking forward

If you read my last post you know that Solace in So Many Words is one-year-old. I have been thinking of the highlights from the past year. But before I give that account let me tell you how great it was that last week started with congratulatory flowers, sent by neighbor and mentor Fran Podulka and her husband Phil to celebrate the gold medal award Solace in So Many Words won from the Next Generation Indie Awards sponsored by Independent Book Publishing Professionals … [Read more...]

The Book Stall was swell

The Book Stall was swell

Many thanks to The Book Stall for hosting our celebration of Poetry Month---to Roberta Rubin for inviting us to read and especially to Amy and Gordon who worked late to accommodate us.  The Book Stall has been named Publishers Weekly Bookstore of the Year and it is obvious why. The Book Stall is supportive of readers and writers alike. We had a pretty large crowd and they were a very attentive audience. We changed up our usual reading event in that we also featured … [Read more...]
