One question that has gone to the back burner of my mind but is still simmering is: Who left the cookies?
On July 4 a paper plate of chocolate chip cookies wrapped in plastic was left between my front doors. No one in the household could tell me who left them. No one had seen a car back out of the drive or a neighbor scamper away.
I wrote my number one suspect an email but she was downed by sciatica, unable to bake or scamper. The cookies sat on the table. I ate at least one before going to a 4th of July parade. And another after dinner. They were delish.
And sooner than later all the cookies disappeared but I never found out who left them. Was it you?
Corny though it is, I am turning to William Carlos William (“This is Just To Say”) to express my gratitude.
This is just to say
I have eaten
the cookies
that were between
the doors
for which
you were probably
wanting
to be thanked.
Forgive me
they were delicious
so chocolate-y
and so moist.

I didn’t think of her but I will email now and ask her — I thought it was my down the street neighbor. BTW, I’ll post one of your pics soon — really like the boat reflection one. But I will run it by you first. Hope al is well with you! I am ready to bagel!
