This is one of Chicago’s big literary weekends with Printers Row Lit Fest on June 7-8. It’s the the 30th anniversary of this celebration of the written word and this year’s featured authors include James Patterson, Marlo Thomas, Walter Mosley and many, many more.
NewCity announced its list of 50 Chicagoans who really book. Are you on the list? Maybe not, but it will give you some ideas for new books to read.
The Guild Literary Complex threw a 25th birthday bash; one part of the celebration was announcing 25 authors in Chicago to watch.
Laura Briskman, who wrote the book club discussion questions for Solace in So Many Words, has an essay “A Little Smut Never Hurt Nobody” in Paper Darts. She writes about Fifty Shades of Grey and Valley of the Dolls.
I think I missed announcing the new book by Kathy Aguero. It’s called After That and was published in 2013 by Tiger Bark Press, which describes the poetry this way: “Featuring meditations on Nancy Drew and confrontations with dementia, After That is a book of poignant surprises and connections.” Here’s a link to a recent review of it in Solstice Literary Magazine.
I continue to enjoy the digital literary magazine Pithead Chapel for its “gutsy” reading; the June issue features a story (“Invisible Strings’) by Steve Karas who juxtaposes an air guitar competition in Finland with the civil unrest in Greece.
Brickton Art Center in Park Ridge, IL, is hosting a photography show (“Spirits in the Wild”) by Dan Elster. The show will run from June 10th to June 28th. His work will wow you.
