These words from “Portuguese Sweet Bread” introduced me to Amy Dengler from Gloucester, MA. She is one of the contributors to Solace in So Many Words who has passed away. As I reported in January 2012, Amy’s fellow poets in the Wordcrafters chapter of the Massachusetts State Poetry Society (MSPS) wanted to honor her memory with a poetry contest.

I recently heard from Roberta Hung who organized the Amy Dengler Memorial Contest. She says the contest has done very well since its inception four years ago. Donations and entry fees have added to the Amy Dengler Fund so the contest may run for several years.

Starting in 2016, the Amy Dengler Memorial Contest will be transferred to the Massachusetts State Poetry Society as part of its Annual National Poetry Day (NPD) Contest

You might be in interested to know that the NPD Contest has 25 sub-contests, each funded by sponsors and awards 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes.  It has a deadline of August 1.  Details may be found each year at the MSPS website.

Roberta Hung is also the MSPS Contest Chair and invites submissions. Entries and fee for the NPD Contest can be sent to her at this new address: 22 Salisbury Rd., Wakefield, MA  01880.

For a single entry fee of $15 (non-members), the contestant may enter a different poem in any number of sub-contests.

Write on. Here are the specifics.
