Starting again

04/02/2021 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

Why, Hello! This site has been on hiatus for months now. I’ve been uninspired to post and uninspired in general. But I’m hoping to start again, especially as April is Poetry Month. Also, this year marks the ten-year anniversary of Solace in So Many Words. By submitting this photo, Laura Rodley provided the gentle nudge I needed. Thanks! Peace, love, and solace     A frequent contributor to this site, Massachusetts poet Laura Rodley, is also … [Read more...]

Is prayer your source of solace?

08/23/2017 By Ellen Beals 4 Comments

Lately I have been thinking about prayers and the Higher Power. It’s a recurring subject for me. The resulting book was called Long-Distance Interrogation; when it was published in English in 1990,  it was titled Disturbing the Peace. From Disturbing the Peace: . . . [T]he kind of hope I often think about (especially in situations that are … [Read more...]

Thomas Merton

05/03/2012 By Ellen Beals

I come by this Slice of Solace through my sister who got it in an email from a friend who received it as a "WORD OF THE DAY" posting from Gratefulness.Org on Thursday, April 19, 2012. You do not need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope. Thomas Merton         … [Read more...]
