Hello there. Hope you have a bowlful of your favorite candy ready for the trick-and-treaters, and that you have plenty of leftovers, which you can then eat yourself when Halloween is over. Sugar high for everyone! Woo-hoo. Big congrats are in order. Solace in So Many Words contributor Joan Corwin is the winner of the 2017 Tom Howard/ John H. Peace and love to you all. I usually wish this to you at the end of  every post but today I want to extend it to you first thing. I have nothing smart or new or world-changing to say about current events so I'll just repeat myself: Peace and love to all. I heard from Kathy Donahoo last week. She lives in California now. She's had two pieces of fiction recently placed. "Joey" a short story appears in Water-Stone Review (Volume 18, 2015), which has the theme: All We Cannot … [Read more...]

Hey there.  Hope all is well with you. Mark your calendar for Book Fort's winter Pop Up Book Fair presented by Curbside Splendor, which will be held Sunday, November 8th, from 1:00 to 6:00 pm at Empty Bottle (1035 N Western). This is a great event and always a lot of fun.  You get to support Chicago's literary talents and enjoy a tasty beverage (I've heard the Bloody Marys are great). There may still be spaces available for exhibitors -- contact Catherine Eves (catherine … [Read more...]

Good day!  Hope life is treating you well. Concerned about the stock market? You may want to read Elizabeth Kerlikowske's poem "The Two Worlds"  on the The New Verse News today (August 26, 20015). There's a whole section of poetry by E. Michael Desilets at the VerseWrights site; his latest to be posted is "Sidetrack's Last Haircut." The Chicago Writers Conference is coming up--September 25-27. Did I mention Donna Hilbert has five poems ("Mother in Satin," … [Read more...]

Two weeks from today you can hear a great presentation by Solace in So Many Words contributor Joan Corwin. As I mentioned in an earlier post, this year marks the 100-year anniversary of World War I.  Safe Shall Be My Going is Joan’s prize-winning novella about that war and she will be reading from it at Evanston Public Library, Sunday, December 14, at 3 pm. Joan wrote to me about the upcoming event in an email: "As many of you know, July 28, 2014 marked the centennial of … [Read more...]
