Happy (almost) Tax Deadline Day!<\/strong> Hope you have your return prepared and that you are receiving a refund. Also hope you did not wake to snow as we did in Chicago. It\u2019s odd certainly to get snow in mid-April and odder still to hear that baseball games are cancelled because of snow.<\/p>\n

Facebook<\/strong> has been in the news.\u00a0 I have used this spot previously to discuss my qualms about social media. Sometimes, more often than it used to be, I am tempted to quit Facebook etc.<\/p>\n

But in addition to leaving the big data collector I would be leaving friends and family I otherwise would not be able to keep up with so easily. Still, leaving FB has been on my mind. What about you?<\/strong> Are you more aware of your social media use?<\/p>\n

If I exited from FB, I might not have heard that SISMW<\/strong><\/em> contributor Kathleen Kirk<\/strong> has a new book of poetry coming out today. Congrats! The book is called The Towns<\/strong> <\/em>and is out from Unicorn Press<\/strong><\/a>.\"kathleen-kirk-photo-credit-dana-colcleasure\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Also, I learned Kathleen Kirk<\/strong> and I are both reading another Kathleen \u2013 Kathleen Rooney<\/strong> (Lillian Boxfish Takes A Walk<\/em><\/strong>). You can keep up with Kathleen Kirk\u2019s<\/strong> reading through her blog, Wait, I Have a Blog?!<\/strong>\u00a0 <\/a>It\u2019s always interesting.<\/p>\n

Also, don\u2019t forget that Kathleen Kirk<\/strong> is the Poetry Editor<\/strong> for Escape into Life<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, a site of much beauty.<\/p>\n

\"redlined-600x840-1\"<\/a>I also want to commend a friend from The Writers,<\/strong> Linda Gartz,<\/strong> <\/a>who has a new nonfiction book\u2014it\u2019s called Redlined<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. Congrats to Linda Gartz!<\/strong><\/p>\n

I did not go to the launch of Redlined<\/strong><\/em> because I was reading for the SalonSeries<\/strong><\/a>, which was great occasion, one that reminded me how much I love reading\/performing. Thanks again to Beth Snyder<\/strong> and Stacy Foisy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Jorge Sanchez<\/strong> also read that night and his canoe poems captivated us — they are philosophical and spiritual and beautiful. Here is a link<\/strong><\/a> to a poem by Jorge Sanchez<\/strong> \u2013 it is called Plaint in a Major Key<\/strong>. You can read the poem and hear Jorge recite it.<\/p>\n

Poetry is always a good antidote to bad weather and taxes.<\/p>\n
