I\u2019ve heard about two calls for submissions you may want to know about.<\/p>\n

SISMW<\/strong> <\/em>contributor Patti Wahlberg<\/strong> emailed to say Duende<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, the online literary journal produced by the students in the BFA-Writing program at Goddard College<\/strong>, has opened for submissions for its next feature issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe theme for this issue is Sex(ualities).<\/strong> . . .an exploration of the multiplicities to be found within sex, desire, eroticism, orientation and the body. If your poems are rough-cut diamonds show us. As always, we encourage submissions from writers who are queer, of color, non-binary, disabled, immigrant, working class, youth, and\/or otherwise from communities underrepresented in U.S. literary magazines and journals. We will remain open for submissions for the feature until June 1, 2018<\/strong>. Work sent will be considered for either the issue or for our Monthly Spotlight features. We decide where your work will fit best. Please follow the links to the submissions portion of our website <\/a>to submit your work online. While there, we encourage you to browse our latest issue, featuring the work of many diverse and talented writers.”<\/p>\n

Jennifer Dotson<\/strong>, founder and program coordinator or Highland Park Poetry<\/strong><\/a>, emailed to say \u201cHighland Park Poetry seeks submissions of poems, photography and art for the Summer Muses’ Gallery. The theme is Coffee, Tea and Other Beverages.<\/strong> The deadline is June 1st<\/strong>. Selected poems, etc. will be published on our website.<\/strong><\/a>\u201d Check out the website<\/strong> <\/a>for complete details.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve been taking care of a pooch. He\u2019s a sensitive guy. The storms the other night freaked him out. The next morning he looked like a wreck, so much so that he was referred to as a \u201cbasket case.\u201d<\/strong> Ever wonder about the origins of this phrase? Turns out it is from World War I\u2014check the Wiki<\/strong> explanation here<\/a>. I guess some phrases are offensive and we don\u2019t even know it, and I guess I\u2019ll be eliminating that one from my vocabulary.<\/p>\n
