I have never been so happy to be asked to get up early on a Sunday morning! That’s because the invitation is from Rick Kogan<\/strong> of WGN Radio 72o<\/strong>.\u00a0Solace in So Many Words<\/em> will be discussed from 6:30 to 7 am<\/strong> on “The Sunday Papers.”<\/strong> What an honor to be asked.<\/p>\n

Named Chicago’s Best Reporter in 1999 and \u00a0inducted into the Chicago Journalism Hall of Fame in 2003, Rick Kogan is currently a senior writer and columnist for the Chicago Tribune’s Sunday<\/a><\/em> magazine<\/a>. He began his career at 16, working\u00a0during the tumultuous Democratic Convention of 1968.<\/p>\n

Rick has written 12 books, including, in collaboration with his father, Yesterday’s Chicago<\/em>, and in collaboration with Tribune<\/em> colleague Maurice Possley, the best-selling Everybody Pays: Two Men, One Murder and the Price of Truth<\/em>. His America’s Mom: The Life, Lesson and Legacy of Ann Landers<\/em>, was published in 2003. His latest books are A Chicago Tavern<\/em>, the history of the Billy Goat, and a collection of the Sidewalks <\/em>columns he writes for the Tribune <\/em>magazine, embellished by Charles Osgood’s photographs. He is also the narrator of an hour-long, 10-part Discovery Channel series titled Escaped<\/em>!<\/p>\n

As for \u201cThe Sunday Papers\u201d<\/strong> radio show, it is described this way: \u201cRick starts off your Sunday with discussions of the weekend’s news and events and interviews with the people–writers, musicians, artists, characters, newsmakers–who make Chicago tick.\u201d<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll be at the interview and so will Joan Corwin (\u201cDetails\u201d) and J. Scott Smith (\u201cHeartbeat\u201d); they not only contributed great stories to Solace in So Many Words<\/em> but helped out with the book from its very inception, so I asked them to be there for \u00a0moral support should I be struck mute. Besides, they are articulate and smart and have lots of good things to say.<\/p>\n
