Weighed Words<\/strong> is super excited to be going to the Associated Writing Programs Conference and Bookfair<\/a> February 29 to March 3 at the Chicago Hilton and Palmer House, and we hope you will stop by. \u00a0Our table is C6 and we are sharing it with Hyacinth Girl Press<\/strong> and Arsenic Lobster Journal<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0The keynote address will be given by Margaret Atwood. \u00a0Another presentation we are stoked to see features U. S. Poet Laureate Philip Levine<\/strong> (who contributed to Solace in So Many Words<\/em>) and British Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy<\/strong> on Friday, March 2 at 8:30 pm, hosted by the Poetry Foundation<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So please come say hello! We look forward to meeting so many people we have just “met” through Facebook and correspondence.<\/p>\n

In other news Solace in So Many Words<\/em> received another rave review, this one from Ben Tanzer<\/strong> on his blog, This Blog Will Change Your Life<\/a>. <\/strong> I copy the review below, but encourage you to check out Ben’s blog as it is a must-read and should be on your favorites list.<\/p>\n

\u201cStruck we are that solace is a tricky thing to articulate as we seek to\u00a0define it, illuminate it and\u00a0ultimately try\u00a0to\u00a0capture it in the written word with the idea that someone will read it knowing to some extent what our intent is.\u00a0Are we asking the writer to focus on how we find solace or why we need it? Is the mere act of\u00a0absorbing oneself\u00a0in stories and poems\u00a0fraught with\u00a0pain,\u00a0the discovery of\u00a0it, trying to make sense of it,\u00a0managing it and ultimately making peace with it\u00a0a kind of solace in and of itself? We’re not sure we have any answers to these questions, but it would be impossible\u00a0not to lose oneself in\u00a0these questions and all the permutations contained therein as one reads SOLACE in So Many Words<\/em> edited by Ellen Wade Beals, which is often times\u00a0moving, and very often sad, sad to us anyway,\u00a0and something\u00a0which is tricky in its own way as well. As readers and consumers of art, and not just writing, though it\u00a0is always first and foremost about writing regardless,\u00a0 we are drawn to joy and ebullience, but it is pain and sadness that we are most likely to lose ourselves in, hence even with\u00a0a collection\u00a0such as this\u00a0which\u00a0uniformly achieves its goals, no minor accomplishment that, and is filled with fine writing, it is the stories that are most painful to us\u00a0that\u00a0linger,\u00a0A Strange\u00a0Episode of Aqua Voyage by\u00a0Joe Meno, because we are\u00a0fans certainly, but\u00a0also because he writes\u00a0about confusion and isolation as well as anyone,\u00a0Details by Joan\u00a0Corwin, whose\u00a0piece on aging hit close to home in ways we\u00a0would not have anticipated, Stops and Starts by Kathleene Donahoo, which frankly left us briefly paralyzed at points, Alleys by Michael\u00a0Constantine McConnell,\u00a0a slice of childhood that just hums with life and Heartbeat by J. Scott Smith\u00a0which is at times\u00a0crippling and other times triumphant. Which in its own way we suppose is\u00a0as good a description of this collection as any we could have hoped to come up with otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n
