I have been thinking of the highlights from the past year.<\/p>\n<p>But before I give that account let me tell you how great it was that last week started with congratulatory flowers, sent by neighbor and mentor Fran Podulka and her husband Phil to celebrate the gold medal award <em><strong>Solace in So Many Words<\/strong><\/em> won from the <strong><a title=\"Next Generation Indie Awards 2012\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indiebookawards.com\/2012_winners_and_finalists.php\" target=\"_blank\">Next Generation Indie Awards<\/a><\/strong> sponsored by <strong><a title=\"IBPPG\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ibppg.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Independent Book Publishing Professionals Group<\/a>. <\/strong>Thanks Fran and Phil for making this even more special<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our great year started \u00a0May 5 \u00a0at a standing-room-only launch at <strong>Women and Children First Bookstore <\/strong>with a fun party at <strong>Reza&#8217;s Restaurant <\/strong>afterward. \u00a0Many contributors were on hand, and it was especially great that <strong>Patti Wojcik Wahlberg<\/strong> and <strong>Lisa Liken<\/strong> came all the way from California.<\/p>\n<p>Several readings came after that: one at <strong>Barbara&#8217;s Bookstore in UIC (<\/strong>thanks to <strong>Victoria Dekoker)<\/strong>, one (with record sales) at <strong>The Book Market in Glenview<\/strong> (thanks <strong>Rick Kotrba<\/strong>), at <strong>Grace Episcopal Church<\/strong> (where we welcomed so warmly), in Long Beach, CA (at the wonderfully supportive <strong>Gatsby Books<\/strong>&#8211;thanks to <strong>Sean Moor<\/strong> and <strong>Alisha Attella<\/strong>), at <strong>Evanston Public Library<\/strong> and <strong>Wilmette Public Library<\/strong>, at <strong>Woman Made Gallery<\/strong> where we were recorded for <strong>Chicago Amplified on WBEZ 91.5 fm <\/strong>(thanks to <strong>Beate Minkovsk<\/strong>i, <strong>Nina Corwin<\/strong>, <strong>Kurt Eric Heintz<\/strong>), and just last month to celebrate Poetry Month at <strong>The Book Stall in Chestnut Court <\/strong>(thanks to <strong>Roberta Rubin<\/strong> and her wonderful staff).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being recorded for radio, we have appeared on two radio shows (<em><strong>The Sunday Papers<\/strong><\/em> with <strong>Rick Kogan<\/strong>, and <strong>Wisconsin Public Radio<\/strong> with <strong>Ben Merrens<\/strong>). \u00a0There is another radio appearance on the horizon&#8211;more info on this appearance will be forthcoming. Stay tuned.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Solace in So Many Words<\/em> <\/strong>has gotten good press. \u00a0A &#8220;Reviewer&#8217;s Choice&#8221; in <em><strong>The California Bookwatch, <\/strong><\/em>the anthology \u00a0has gotten stellar reviews from <em><strong>ForeWord\u00a0Reviews Magazine<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>The Midwest Book Review<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>The Portland Review of Books<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Mindful Metropolis<\/strong><\/em> and other publications. The anthology was the subject of \u00a0a feature article in in the <strong>Pioneer Press<\/strong> newspapers (thanks <strong>Lilli Kuzma<\/strong>). <strong>Jason Pettus<\/strong> and <strong>Ben Tanzer<\/strong> have been kind too (thanks) and so have reviewers who posted on <strong>Goodreads<\/strong> and the <strong>Amazon<\/strong> pages.<\/p>\n<p>Our book fair experience started with the <strong>Chicago Book Expo<\/strong>, continued with the <strong>Associated Writing Programs Annual Conference Bookfair <\/strong>(where I got to meet contributor <strong>Philip Levine, U.S. Poet Laureate) <\/strong>and will continue with <strong><a title=\"Chicago Tribune Printers Row Literary Festival\" href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/entertainment\/books\/printersrowlitfest\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Printers Row Festival<\/a><\/strong> (June 9 and 10); our table will be in the <strong><a title=\"Chicago Publishes \" href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagopublishes.com\/2012\/05\/printers-row-lit-fest-call-for-volunteers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Publishes Tent<\/a><\/strong>. \u00a0<strong>Stop by if you can.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It would impossible to list the number of great people the book has connected me to for there have been so many. \u00a0First and foremost are the talented contributors to the book. \u00a0Several local contributors have made almost every event, and because of them, our readings of <em><strong>Solace in So Many Words<\/strong><\/em> are tight and well rehearsed. A big shout out to: <strong>Joan Corwin<\/strong>, <strong>J. Scott Smith<\/strong>, <strong>D. J. Lachance<\/strong>, <strong>Kathleene Donahoo<\/strong>, <strong>Kathleen Kirk<\/strong>, <strong>Carol Kanter<\/strong>, <strong>Pamela Miller<\/strong>, <strong>Jan Bottiglieri<\/strong>, <strong>Pat Rahmann<\/strong>, <strong>Barry Silesky<\/strong>, <strong>D. I. Gray<\/strong>, <strong>Paula W. Peterson<\/strong>, <strong>Susan Cherry<\/strong>, <strong>Teresa A.
