Arthur also has a book of short stories due out from a great little independent publisher, and I will tell you more about that when the publication is out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patty Somlo <\/strong>has a short story &#8220;A Leaf in the Storm&#8221; in <strong><a title=\"Dark Matter \" href=\"http:\/\/hunblog.typepad.com\/dark_matter\/2012\/12\/dark-matter-issue-2.html\" target=\"_blank\">Dark Matter<\/a>. <\/strong> Dark Matter is a blog for speculative literature.\u00a0Patty&#8217;s story begins this way: &#8220;You spotted him across the poorly lit subway station. Our primary mission is to present works from, about or inspired by this geographic region, its peoples and cultures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Did I tell you that <strong>Michael Constantine McConnell<\/strong> has a poem &#8220;Faun&#8217;s Lament&#8221; published in <em><strong><a title=\"Electric Vellocipede Faun's Lament by Michael Constantine McConnell \" href=\"http:\/\/www.electricvelocipede.com\/tag\/michael-constantine-mcconnell\/\" target=\"_blank\">Electric Velocipede<\/a>? <\/strong><\/em>The four-part poem \u00a0begins: &#8220;I loved a woman carved from green cheese.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border: 1px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cclapcenter.com\/drownings\/drowningscover400.jpg\" border=\"1\" alt=\"Famous Drownings in Literary History, by Kevin Haworth\" width=\"185\" height=\"240\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Thanks to <strong>Jason Pettus<\/strong> at <strong><a title=\"CCLaP\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cclapcenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Chicago Center of Literature and Photography (CCLaP)<\/a><\/strong><a title=\"Chicago Center for Literature and Photography (CCLaP)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cclapcenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"> <\/a>for mentioning me in his January 10, 2013 blog on The Year in Books: Highlights from Locals and Friends. \u00a0If you don&#8217;t know about <strong>CCLaP<\/strong> then you are missing out. For instance, you know how lately <strong>George Saunders<\/strong> is receiving all kinds of accolades? Well, Jason uploaded an interview podcast with him (January 15) and followed it the next day with a critical overview of Saunder&#8217;s work.That&#8217;s just one example of the great subject matter that Jason takes on. And of course in addition to all the blogs, reviews and photos posted on the site, <strong>CCLaP <\/strong>produces unique books. The latest is \u00a0<strong><em>Famous Drownings in History, Essays on 21st Century Jewishness<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>R.D. Armstrong <\/strong>editor of <strong><a title=\"LUMMOX journal, issue 1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lummoxpress.com\/journal.html\" target=\"_blank\">LUMMOX <\/a><\/strong>wants you to keep the journal in mind and suggests that it might be the right addition to the syllabus for a class you are teaching. \u00a0<strong>LUMMOX <\/strong>(no. 1) represents a cross-section of 21st Century underground \/ small press poetry. The first issue features &#8220;favorite poems&#8221; by over 200 poets, with a special emphasis on the poetry of Santa Fe and Albuquerque, New Mexico. \u00a0I was lucky enough to have a poem <strong>&#8220;Commiseration&#8221;<\/strong> in this new journal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lummoxpress.com\/CoverFinal2.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"532\" height=\"323\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Finally, this site receives few legitimate comments but many spam messages, hawking UGG boots, replica jerseys, designer purses and lots of other stuff. \u00a0Spammers are smart and \u00a0try to leave a message that could pass as on the level. One I recently received cracked me up &#8212; it was almost poetry:<\/p>\n<p><strong>I guess I could come over<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Keep your temper under control.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s up?
