{"id":4553,"date":"2013-02-14T14:15:16","date_gmt":"2013-02-14T14:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/?p=4553"},"modified":"2013-02-14T14:15:16","modified_gmt":"2013-02-14T14:15:16","slug":"my-valentine-to-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/2013\/02\/my-valentine-to-reading\/","title":{"rendered":"My valentine to reading"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><strong>Between the sheets<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>I confess,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>to sleeping with books,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>covers spread open and waiting\u2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>they beckon,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>a fluttering of leaves<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>like lapping tongues.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Oh, their smooth embossed spines.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The tawdry ones are good for a night.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Rumpled, smelling of smoke,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>usually borrowed and broken.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>They\u2019re anybody\u2019s book,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>sorry, sticky maybe,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>used and returned.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The worldly wise leave an exotic taste,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>others have the common language<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>of guttersnipes but<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>provide good tale.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Some disappoint\u2014<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>summer flings, read<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>and dismissed,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>important as the sand<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>shaken from my shoe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>I can\u2019t help but embrace them all,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>stroking the ones I love,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>smelling their words.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>After a good read, I\u2019m bushed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lying across my chest,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>the latest listens to my heartbeat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>while I take in what else it says.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a9 Ellen Wade Beals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Books have always been my best companions so I thought I&#8217;d share my profession of love.
