Pamela Miller<\/strong> (who contributed “What It’s All About” to Solace in So Many Words<\/strong><\/em>) has new book from Mayapple Press<\/strong><\/a>. It’s called Miss Unthinkable<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Here’s how it’s described:<\/p>\n

“Who is Miss Unthinkable<\/em><\/strong>? In this latest collection from Chicago poet Pamela Miller<\/strong>, she\u2019s a shape-shifting sorority of mysterious, funny and wise female characters who don\u2019t let anything get the better of them\u2014from undependable husbands and lovers to breast cancer, aging or even death. The women who strut their stuff in these poems wear \u201celectric sunglasses\u201d and \u201cbracelets of miracles and plagues\u201d; they \u201cthunder up the stairs of desire\u201d and write love letters \u201cjuicy as mangoes\u201d; and when confronted with their own mortality, they defiantly \u201cjitterbug with Death in some roadhouse dive,\u201d then \u201crun war-whooping into the light.\u201d In poems that range from the fantastical (\u201cOn Our Honeymoon in New York City, My Husband Turns into Times Square\u201d) to the autobiographical (the 11-poem sequence \u201cThe Body at Fifty\u201d), this book chronicles and celebrates the resilience of the female spirit with equal parts respect and rowdiness.”<\/p>\n

Ellen Bass <\/strong>has two poems (“Saturn’s Rings” and Ode to the Fish”)\u00a0 in HillTromper (Santa Cruz)<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. Also if you are thinking about attending a writer’s workshop in poetry, consult Ellen’s site <\/a>because she hosts a number of workshops each year and is well-known for helping her students push their poems to excellence.<\/p>\n

I am happy to report my work has recently appeared in two literary\u00a0 journals.\u00a0 “Awkward” appears in the latest issue (issue 15) of Prism Review<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, which is published by University of LaVerne<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 I haven’t read the entire issue yet but so far I have been impressed with lots of the writing in this journal; especially the stories of Ned Randle<\/strong> (“The Boston Tar Baby”) and Grant Garland<\/strong> (“Out of Misery”) and the poem “Midnight Soliloquy” by Stephen Longfellow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

My poems “Opossum” and “Hey Teacher” appear in the latest issue of The Hummingbird Review<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em> The issue also contains an interview with Billy Collins.\u00a0 If you have any questions about titles for your poems, you may want to consult this interview because the former poet laureate gives some insight into this subject.\u00a0 Along with the interview, the anthology which focuses on Hollywood\u00a0 has short stories, poems and a screenplay.<\/p>\n
