So I had to get my camera and try to capture its beauty. Take a look at <strong>Glimpse of Solace<\/strong> to see how I did.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the poetry world is upset with a recent article <a title=\"Poetry Slam Mark Edmundson\" href=\"http:\/\/harpers.org\/archive\/2013\/07\/poetry-slam\/\" target=\"_blank\">(&#8220;Poetry Slam, Or, The decline of American verse&#8221;) <\/a> in July <strong><em>Harper&#8217;s<\/em><\/strong> by <strong>Mark Edmundson<\/strong>.\u00a0 Because the article is behind a paywall and I am not a subscriber, I was not able to read it entirely.\u00a0 But I have been reading all the articles about the article.\u00a0 One of the first responses is <a title=\"Why is modern poetry so bad? Ron Charles\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/style-blog\/wp\/2013\/06\/20\/why-is-modern-poetry-so-bad\/?tid=d_pulse\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Why is modern poetry so bad?&#8221;<\/a> written by <strong>Ron Charles<\/strong> and published in <em>The Washington Post<\/em>.\u00a0 Another response came in <strong><em>The Huffington Post<\/em><\/strong> from <strong>Seth Abramson <\/strong>who asks, <a title=\"Why is Contemporary American Poetry So Good? Seth Abramson\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/seth-abramson\/why-is-contemporary-ameri_b_3474969.html\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Why is Contemporary American Poetry So Good?&#8221;<\/a> Yet another response appears in <em>The Atlantic Wire<\/em>; it&#8217;s <a title=\"Can Modern Poetry Be Saved? J. K. Trotter\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlanticwire.com\/entertainment\/2013\/06\/can-modern-poetry-be-saved\/66497\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Can Modern Poetry Be Saved?<\/a>&#8221; and is written by J. K. Trotter.\u00a0\u00a0 <strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Don Share<\/strong>, who is the new editor of <em><strong>Poetry<\/strong><\/em>, responds to Edmundson&#8217;s specific complaint that poetry &#8220;must burn to attack some issue&#8221; by linking to the June issue of <a title=\"Poetry Foundation \/ Poetry Magazine\" href=\"http:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poetrymagazine\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Poetry<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, which is entirely devoted <strong>landays<\/strong>, which are Afghan folk poetry, formed of couplets. <strong>Eliza Griswold<\/strong>, in her introduction, explains, &#8220;a landay&#8211;an oral and often anonymous scrap of song created by and for mostly illiterate people: the more than twenty millions Pashtun women who span the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.&#8221;\u00a0 The issue is a must-read.\u00a0 <strong>Eliza Griswold<\/strong> spent years collecting and then translating these landays sometimes under some pretty scary circumstances; she travelled there with photographer <strong>Seamus Murphy<\/strong> whose pictures are another highlight of this issue.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5174\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5174\" style=\"width: 413px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_4281.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5174 \" title=\"IMG_4281\" src=\"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_4281-1024x988.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"413\" height=\"398\" srcset=\"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_4281-1024x988.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_4281-300x289.jpg 300w, https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/IMG_4281.jpg 1172w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 413px) 100vw, 413px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5174\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From Poetry&#39;s June issue: an example of a landay, illustrated with a photograph by Seamus Murphy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Another issue that has been the recent topic of articles on poetry is plagiarism.\u00a0 On April 26, <strong>Sandra Beasley&#8217;s <\/strong>article <a title=\"Nice Poem; I'll Take It  Sandra Beasley\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/04\/28\/books\/review\/nice-poem-ill-take-it.html?pagewanted=all&amp;_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Nice Poem; I&#8217;ll Take It&#8221;<\/a> appeared in the <em>The New York Times<\/em> and recounts how &#8220;The Deer&#8221; by Helen Mort was copied by Christian Ward and awarded the Exmoor Society&#8217;s Hope Bourne Prize. She came to find that the text of her poem &#8220;August&#8221; was also appropriated by Ward (he titled it &#8220;July.&#8221;) On May 22, <strong>Allison Flood <\/strong>reports in <em>The Guardian<\/em>, that another British poet, David R.
