Well, I&#8217;ve decided to look again\u00a0 at some of my favorite things from the past month or so, to relish them.<\/p>\n<p>First up are prints done by <a title=\"The Chicago Neighborhoods Steve Shanabruch\" href=\"http:\/\/thechicagoneighborhoods.com\/Prints\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Steve Shanabruch<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 From <a title=\"The Chicagoist Check Out The WPA-inspired prints\" href=\"http:\/\/chicagoist.com\/2013\/08\/27\/chicago_neighborhoods_project_print.php#photo-1\" target=\"_blank\"><strong><em>The Chicagoist <\/em><\/strong><\/a>I found out about his Chicago neighborhood project in which he gives a neighborhood a unique logo and makes a WPA-inspired print for it. At the time the article came out, only the South Loop, Beverly and Logan Square had been given the Steve Shanabruch treatment. I Tweeted about it, saying I wished he had one for my old neighborhood of Ravenswood Manor. Turns out he was working on one and he Tweeted me back. I was ecstatic when I saw them. Is there a print for your neighborhood?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This year I tried to stay out of the stores and buy my gifts from artists and small companies. I attended craft fairs at the <a title=\"IAHC\" href=\"http:\/\/irish-american.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Irish American Heritage Center<\/strong><\/a> and <a title=\"Pleasant Home Organization\" href=\"http:\/\/pleasanthome.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pleasant Home Organization<\/strong><\/a> in Oak Park. I also went to the <strong><a title=\"Renegade Craft Fair\" href=\"http:\/\/www.renegadecraft.com\/chicago\" target=\"_blank\">Renegade Craft Fair<\/a><\/strong> and the gift shop at <a title=\"Woman Made Gallery\" href=\"http:\/\/www.womanmade.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Woman Made Gallery<\/strong><\/a>. I gave the typewriter key ones to some of my writer friends and I bought the\u00a0 roulette wheels one for myself so I can wear them next time in Vegas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My friend <strong>Joan<\/strong> knows I love <strong>bananas<\/strong> and whenever she sees something bananas, she gets it for me.\u00a0 How cool are these cards?\u00a0 Designed by a young woman named named <strong>Paulina Rico<\/strong>,\u00a0 the card was created as part of the <strong>Design to Print <\/strong>career development program of <a title=\"Marwen\" href=\"https:\/\/marwen.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Marwen<\/strong><\/a>. I want my art of remind us of our inner child.&#8221;\u00a0 I could say this has appeal but instead\u00a0 I&#8217;ll tell you that I smile whenever I see the card.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I can&#8217;t say how long it has been, but for a while now, each year year at Christmas I have been the happy recipient of <strong>homemade caramels<\/strong>. I wish I could write something as satisfactory, a poem that is as delicious or a story that blends so well it melts in your mouth. I have two left. If you wonder why I didn&#8217;t unwrap the caramel in the picture it&#8217;s because I am saving it. Nothing fights off the winter doldrums like this golden candy.
