Here\u2019s some news. Kathleen Kirk<\/strong> has two poems and \u201cIf I Were the Cherry Wood Piano\u201d <\/strong><\/a>and “The Body”<\/strong><\/a> in the latest issue of Rose Red Review<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

On April 16, Donna Hilbert\u2019s<\/strong> poem \u201cGravity\u201d<\/strong><\/a> was published on the Silver Birch<\/strong><\/em> site.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned before, a photograph I took (“Cold Heart”)\u00a0 is the cover for the latest issue of Vine Leaves Literary Journal<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. This paragraph on the journal\u2019s submission page will let you know what the publication is about:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019Vignette\u2019 is a word\u00a0that originally meant \u2018something that may be written on a vine-leaf.\u2019 It\u2019s a snapshot in words. It differs from flash fiction or a short story in that its aim does not lie within the realms of traditional structure or plot. The vignette focuses on one element, mood, character, setting or object. It’s descriptive, excellent for character or theme exploration and wordplay. Through a vignette, you create an atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vine Leaves<\/strong><\/em> is a multinational effort, with editors from Australia, Canada and Greece working on it.\u00a0 Jessica Bell <\/strong><\/a>is the Publishing Editor and Designer. The 44-page digital magazine shows off the work of more than thirty writers and eight artists. It is visually stunning.\u00a0 As you might have guessed, each piece is short and complete on one page.\u00a0 There is much to admire in this issue. Manda Frederick\u2019s <\/strong>descriptive talent in her poem \u201cOn Icicles\u201d<\/strong> will bring to mind this Chicago winter\u2019s stalactites of \u201cice-locked water.\u201d You must read\u00a0 “My Father,”<\/strong> the poem by\u00a0 Gleah Powers <\/strong>to see what she describes as a \u201cmethane star snowflake.\u201d Kevin Tosca\u2019s<\/strong> piece \u201cThere is Danger Everywhere\u201d<\/strong> addresses one of our basic cravings. Ray Scanlon\u2019s \u201cFamily\u201d<\/strong> is wry and touching.\u00a0 In short, there is so much more here to look at besides my cover, I hope you download and read it.<\/p>\n

I guess one of the reasons I have not posted lately is that I have been writing and submitting my work to various calls and contests.<\/p>\n

New Pages<\/strong><\/em>,<\/a> \u201cthe portal of independents, \u00a0devoted to \u201cNews, information and guides to independent bookstores, independent publishers, literary magazines, alternative periodicals, independent record labels, alternative newsweeklies and more.\u201d It is updated often.<\/p>\n

CRWROPPS,<\/strong><\/a> which stands for the Creative Writers Opportunity List<\/strong>, a Yahoo pages run by poet Allison Joseph<\/strong>. New info is posted daily, sometimes hourly.\u00a0 So grateful to Allison for this.<\/p>\n

The Practicing Writer<\/strong><\/em>,<\/a> the free newsletter put out by the writer Erika Dreifus<\/strong><\/a>. Erika, like Allison, is an altruistic writer–thankful for these informative postings.<\/p>\n
