\"\"<\/a>This is one of Chicago\u2019s big literary weekends with Printers Row Lit Fest on June 7-8. <\/strong><\/a> It\u2019s the the 30th<\/sup> anniversary of this celebration of the written word and this year\u2019s featured authors include James Patterson<\/strong>, Marlo Thomas<\/strong>, Walter Mosley<\/strong> and many, many more.<\/p>\n

NewCity<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/a> announced its list of 50 Chicagoans who really book<\/strong>. Are you on the list? Maybe not, but it will give you some ideas for new books to read.<\/p>\n

The Guild Literary Complex<\/strong><\/a> threw a 25th<\/sup> birthday bash; one part of the celebration was\u00a0 announcing 25 authors in Chicago to watch.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Laura Briskman, <\/strong>who wrote the book club discussion questions for Solace in So Many Words<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0 has an essay “A Little Smut Never Hurt Nobody<\/strong>”\u00a0 in Paper Darts<\/strong><\/em><\/a>. She writes about Fifty Shades of Grey<\/em> and Valley of the Dolls<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>I think I missed announcing the new book by Kathy Aguero<\/strong>. It\u2019s called After That<\/strong><\/em> and was published in 2013 by \u00a0Tiger Bark Press<\/strong><\/a>, which describes the poetry this way: “Featuring meditations on Nancy Drew and confrontations with dementia,\u00a0 After That<\/em> is a book of poignant surprises and connections.”\u00a0 <\/span><\/em> Here\u2019s a link to a recent review of it in Solstice Literary Magazine<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

I continue to\u00a0 enjoy the digital literary magazine Pithead Chapel<\/strong><\/em> <\/a>for its \u201cgutsy\u201d reading; the June issue features a story (“Invisible Strings’)\u00a0 by Steve Karas<\/strong> who juxtaposes an air guitar competition in Finland\u00a0 with the civil unrest in Greece.<\/p>\n

Brickton Art Center<\/strong><\/a> in Park Ridge, IL, is hosting a photography show (“Spirits in the Wild”<\/strong><\/em>) by Dan Elster<\/strong><\/a>. The show will run from June 10th to June 28th. His work will wow you.<\/p>\n
