On January 16 there was a story on NPR<\/strong> by Jason Comely<\/strong> about embracing rejection (“By Making a Game out of Rejection, A Man Conquers Fear”<\/strong><\/a>). For a while there I was going to write a post about it, how writers have to embrace rejection.\u00a0 I was trying to think of it in terms of the Pareto principle, the mathematical principle known as the 80-20 rule, but I couldn\u2019t get it straight in my head.\u00a0 Turns out on The Review Review<\/em> Katherine West <\/strong>addresses the NPR story and applies it to writing in her essay “Three Cheers for Rejections! Welcoming Your Writing Back Home.” <\/strong><\/a> Thanks for doing what I could not.<\/p>\n

Karen Craigo<\/strong> has a new blog about writing called Better View of the Moon<\/strong>; her February 10 post is “In Praise of Rejection.”<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

In my writing group we are all excited about publication, specifically the new book Principles of Navigation <\/strong><\/em>by <\/strong>Lynn Sloan <\/a><\/strong><\/em>and just out from Fomite<\/strong>.<\/a> The launch will be at Women and Children First<\/a> bookstore, which, btw, is being remodeled.\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I recently subscribed to an international literary magazine out of Ireland called The Moth <\/strong><\/em><\/a>and whom should I find in the issue? E. Michael Desilets <\/strong>that\u2019s who and his poem “Filial Piety.”\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Laura Rodley<\/strong> has a poem “This Past Full Moon” <\/strong><\/a>up at The New Verse News<\/strong><\/em>; it\u2019s was posted February 4.<\/p>\n

The New Verse News<\/em><\/strong> presents politically progressive poetry on current events and topical issues. Susan Mahan<\/strong> has a poem “Grim Perspective” <\/strong><\/a>up at Silver Birch<\/strong><\/em> as part of the Where I Live Poetry & Photography Series. <\/strong>I love Silver Birch<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Michael Constantine McConnell <\/strong>has work forthcoming in a new\u00a0 literary magazine out of Dubai called The Fable<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, which seeks submissions of creative short fiction; it will debut in March and I’ll try to follow up then.<\/p>\n

If you’re surfng with no place to go, don’t forget Kathleen Kirk<\/strong> always provides a good read.\u00a0 She picks out poetry for Escape in Life<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and she has her own blog, Wait! I Have a Blog?!<\/em><\/strong><\/a> Also, RHINO<\/strong><\/em><\/a> just nominated a poem by Kathleen for a 2015 Illinois Arts Council Literary Award; the poem is “Cassandra is Overcome by Beauty.”<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n
