Well, at least that\u2019s what I think this morning. That\u2019s because last night I read <strong>Amy Poehler\u2019s<\/strong> book <strong><em>Yes Please <\/em><\/strong>and in the chapter \u201cTreat Your Career Like a Bad Boyfriend,\u201d she writes: \u201c<strong>Try to care less. Practice ambivalence. Learn to let go of wanting it. Treat your career like a bad boyfriend.\u201d <\/strong> So I will try to focus on the creative aspect of writing and less so on the career aspect, but it is difficult. I \u00a0feel like readers complete the artistic endeavor of writers \u2013 they are the final step in the process.<\/p>\n<p>The other thing I am working on lately is to not be all<a title=\"Americans Still Pretty Judge-y\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/national\/archive\/2014\/06\/americans-still-pretty-judge-y\/372414\/\" target=\"_blank\"> judge-y<\/a>. Recently I have seen posts on Facebook and Twitter and heard remarks in conversations that could be considered a little \u201ctectchy.\u201d\u00a0 So, I am trying not to judge anyone, including the judgers. But, it is not always easy to bite my tongue.\u00a0 A critical mind is part of human nature.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Solace in So Many Words <\/em><\/strong>contributors have been busy. I opened my email to find <strong>Donna Hilbert<\/strong>&#8216;s poem <a title=\"Peninsul by Donna Hilbert Silver Birch\" href=\"https:\/\/silverbirchpress.wordpress.com\/2015\/02\/26\/peninsula-long-beach-by-donna-hilbert-where-i-live-poetry-photography-series\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&#8220;Peninsula&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> about her home of <strong>Long Beach, CA,<\/strong> for <em><strong>Silver Birch<\/strong> <strong>Press<\/strong><\/em>, as part of its &#8220;Where I Live Poetry and Photography Series.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Patty Somlo <\/strong>has a new story <a title=\"The Argument by Patty Somlo\" href=\"http:\/\/216.197.126.12\/arlijo\/index.cfm?issue=75\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&#8220;The Argument&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> online in issue 75 of <em><strong>Arlington Literary Journal<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Susan Mahan <\/strong>is coming to Chicago to read at the launch of <em><strong>Shifts<\/strong><\/em>. It is a new book from <a title=\"Muse Write\" href=\"http:\/\/www.musewrite.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Muse Write<\/strong><\/a> called <em><strong>Shifts: An Anthology of Women&#8217;s Growth Through Change <\/strong><\/em>by <strong>Michelle Duster<\/strong> and <strong>Trina Sotira <\/strong>with <strong>Jen Cullerton Johnson<\/strong>.\u00a0 BTW, Jen Cullerton Johnson, Susan Mahan, and I all has work in <strong><em>Kiss Me Goodnight<\/em> <\/strong>way back when<strong>.<\/strong> The launch is later in March &#8212; I&#8217;ll keep you posted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kathleen Aguero<\/strong> has a poem <a title=\"Send Off by Kathleen Aguero\" href=\"http:\/\/www.americanlifeinpoetry.org\/columns\/517.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&#8220;Send Off&#8221; <\/strong><\/a>in Column 517 of<em><strong> American Life in Poetry<\/strong><\/em> (which is the online project for newspapers by <strong>US Poet Laureate Ted Kooser<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>As I have mentioned before,<strong> Daniel Chacon<\/strong> has a radio show <em><strong>Words on a Wire<\/strong><\/em> on KTED El Paso, TX, and he recently replayed his <a title=\"Interview with Philip Levine\" href=\"http:\/\/ktep.org\/post\/words-wire-philip-levine\" target=\"_blank\">interview with Philip Levine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago poet and publisher<strong> C. J. Laity<\/strong> is <a title=\"CHicago Poetry JOMP\" href=\"http:\/\/chicagopoetry.com\/modules.php?op=modload&amp;name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=1547&amp;mode=thread&amp;order=0&amp;thold=0\" target=\"_blank\">looking for submissions<\/a> for his latest <em><strong>Journal of Modern Poetry (JOMP)<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 the theme is Peace.<\/p>\n<p>A great source for Chicago are poets is <a title=\"Highland Park Poetry\" href=\"http:\/\/www.highlandparkpoetry.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Highland Park Poetry<\/strong><\/a>, which is run by<strong> Jennifer Dotson<\/strong>.
