These words from \u201cPortuguese Sweet Bread\u201d<\/strong> introduced me to Amy Dengler<\/strong> from Gloucester, MA<\/a>. She is one of the contributors to Solace in So Many Words<\/em> <\/strong>who has passed away<\/a>. As I reported in January 2012<\/a>, Amy\u2019s fellow poets in the Wordcrafters<\/strong> chapter of the Massachusetts State Poetry Society (MSPS)<\/strong> wanted to honor her memory with a poetry contest.<\/p>\n

I recently heard from Roberta Hung<\/strong> who organized the Amy Dengler Memorial Contest<\/strong>. She says the contest has done very well since its inception four years ago. Donations and entry fees have added to the Amy Dengler Fund<\/strong> so the contest may run for several years.<\/p>\n

Starting in 2016, the Amy Dengler Memorial Contes<\/strong>t will be transferred to the Massachusetts State Poetry Society<\/strong> as part of its Annual National Poetry<\/strong> Day<\/strong> (NPD<\/strong>) Contest<\/strong><\/p>\n

You might be in interested to know that the NPD Contest<\/strong> has 25 sub-contests<\/strong>, each funded by sponsors and awards 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes.\u00a0 It has a deadline of August 1.\u00a0 <\/strong>Details may be found each year at the MSPS<\/strong> website<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Roberta Hung<\/strong> is also the MSPS Contest Chair<\/strong> and invites submissions. Entries and fee for the NPD Contest<\/strong> can be sent to her at this new address: 22 Salisbury Rd., Wakefield, MA\u00a0 01880<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For a single entry fee of $15 (non-members), the contestant may enter a different poem in any number of sub-contests.<\/p>\n
