Howdy<\/strong><\/p>\n

When I wrote Laura Rodley<\/strong> that I wanted to post “Burdocks,”<\/strong> she replied that the timing was apt since the burdocks are blooming now. I also asked for photos since I don’t have any pics of horses; I was so glad I did because she provided a photo of her horse Cinnamon<\/strong> who is beset with burrs.<\/p>\n

Burdocks<\/strong><\/p>\n

Burdocks plush in pasture paddock skipped
\nculling, their burrs caught in horse\u2019s mane, gripped,
\na might of their own requiring patience
\nto remove or snips of scissors. The quince
\nto the edge of yard, not her choice to eat.
\nToo bitter, she prefers acorns, neat
\nsnaps between her teeth, cap and shell, needing
\nonly water to wash them down, more feeding
\nsoon to come, everything sure looks good, how
\nshe emanates peace chomping comfrey, bow-
\ning to the prickly green leaves, supplicant
\nmunching by milkweed, caterpillars blunt,
\nstuck underneath leaves, shoring up cocoons,
\nsomewhat late this year for journey cross dunes.<\/p>\n

Laura Rodley<\/strong> received a Pushcart Prize<\/strong> for her poem \u201cResurrection,\u201d<\/strong><\/a> (originally in The New Verse News <\/strong><\/em>and\u00a0 now in Pushcart Edition XXXVII<\/strong>), and she\u00a0 has had work published in Best Indie Lit New England<\/em>, Massachusetts Review<\/em>, and Hunger Mountain<\/em> among others.<\/p>\n

She is editor and publisher<\/strong> of As You Write It, A Franklin County Anthology,<\/strong><\/em> a compilation of memoirs from seniors age 70 through 95. Former co-curator of the Collected Poets Series<\/strong>, she teaches creative writing.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Vagabond Heart”<\/strong> is a pure knockout of a poem by Laura on the Hunger Mountain<\/em><\/strong> site<\/a>. Laura also writes features such as \u201cDreams Do Come True,\u201d<\/strong><\/a> and \u201cNormandes for Gourmandes\u201d<\/a> for Country Folks<\/strong><\/em>, the Weekly Farm Paper Highlighting Agriculture.<\/p>\n

She has two chapbooks from Finishing Line Press<\/strong>: Rappelling Blue Light<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and Your Left Front Wheel Is Coming Loose<\/strong><\/em><\/a><\/p>\n
