\"Chicago-Writers-Conference\"<\/a>The Chicago Writers Conference<\/strong> <\/a>is coming up–September 25-27<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Did I mention Donna Hilbert<\/strong> has five poems (“Mother in Satin,” “Queens,” “Mother Tongue,” “Catching her Dance, and “Gravity”) on Verse-Virtual<\/a>.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"51Xpt9b92VL._SX322_BO1,204,203,200_\"<\/a>Joan Corwin’s<\/strong> story “Hindsight”<\/strong> (in a condensed version) appears in the new anthology (AFTER)life: Poems and Stories of the Dead<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, out in July from Purple Passion Press<\/strong>.\u00a0 A look at the list of contributors shows Ellen Bass<\/strong> also has work in the book. The collection was edited Renee M. Schell, Marta Svea Wallien, and Barbara Froman<\/strong>, who is a friend to SISMW<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Did I tell you that Wally Swist<\/strong> has a new chapbook of poems out from Finishing Line;<\/strong> it is titled “Things I Know I Love: Odes to Food.<\/strong><\/em>“<\/a><\/p>\n

Also from Finishing Line<\/strong> is “Edgewater,”<\/strong><\/em><\/a> the chapbook by Arthur Powers.<\/p>\n

The September issue of The Atlantic<\/strong><\/em> has a lot to offer, such as the article by Greg Lukianoff<\/strong> and Jonathan Haidt<\/strong>, titled\u00a0 “The Coddling of the American Mind.”<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

I am an Alice McDermott<\/strong> fan so I particularly enjoyed “These Short, Dark Days”<\/a><\/strong> in the August 24 issue of The New Yorker<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ellen Bass<\/strong> has a love poem “The Small Country”<\/strong> <\/a>in this same issue of\u00a0 The New Yorker<\/strong><\/em>–it will melt the ice in your sawdust heart.<\/p>\n
