I\u2019ve been traveling so the pic at the left is taken from a plane. Every time I am on a plane and look out the window at clouds I think of Joni Mitchell’s<\/strong> song Both Sides Now<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Donna Hilbert<\/strong> has some dynamite poems about her mother in the February Verse-Virtual<\/em><\/strong>\u2014here\u2019s the link<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Mother-Rabbit-cover-sm-1\"<\/a>Tekla Dennison Miller<\/strong> has a new book published by Oak Tree Books<\/strong><\/a>. It’s called Mother Rabbit<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how it\u2019s described: \u201cAlyce Bonura is a single mother who takes a position as the Bunny Mother of the Chicago Playboy Club to not only flee from a negative relationship but to pursue a career that guarantees financial freedom and upward mobility. Unfortunately, all is not what is assured or expected. Mother Rabbit is a collaborative memoir about a woman like so many others in the 1960’s, caught between living according to traditional societal mores and pursuing the promises of the feminist movement.<\/p>\n

The local Highland Park, IL<\/strong> literary magazine East on Central<\/em><\/strong>, has a March 1<\/strong> deadline\u2014here is the link<\/strong><\/a>. The magazine features visual art as well as poetry and prose and is always handsome.<\/p>\n

Subprimal Poetry Art<\/strong><\/em><\/a> is a web-based magazine featuring “thought-provoking words, music, and other art”\u00a0 that just opened its call for submissions. There will be a guest editor for this issue, the poet John C. Mannone<\/strong><\/a>. Here’s the link to Subprimal’s submission info<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To me it will always be Chicago<\/strong>, not Chi-town,<\/strong> but that matters not. Have you written poetry or prose about our city?\u00a0 Or maybe you have an idea for an article.\u00a0 Or maybe you have black-and-white photos. Well, check out Belt<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n

As is explained on the submission page, \u201cHere at Belt<\/strong> <\/em>we\u2019re in the business of covering the Rust Belt. But what exactly does that mean when it comes to Chicago? . . . . Coming in early 2017, the Chicago Anthology<\/strong> will be edited by Belt<\/strong><\/em> magazine editor-in-chief Martha Bayne<\/strong><\/a>. We are looking for a wide range of contributions that speak to the city\u2019s past and its diverse, complicated, confounding present; to its rich history and politics, for sure, but also to its arts and its culture; its ecology and its elemental humanity.\u201d The deadline is June 1.
