Here in Chicago we have not quite gotten to warm weather yet. And the news seems to be that other areas of the country have also experienced a return to winter. I guess we should expect April to be harsh for as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poem\/176735\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>T. S. Eliot<\/strong><\/a> told us: &#8220;April is the cruellest month, breeding \/ Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing \/ Memory and desire, stirring \/ Dull roots with spring rain.&#8221; BTW, <strong>Happy Poetry Month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/enchantedair.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8976 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/enchantedair-197x300.jpg\" alt=\"enchantedair\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/enchantedair-197x300.jpg 197w, https:\/\/solaceinabook.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/enchantedair.jpg 353w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/><\/a><\/strong>Cuban-American author<a href=\"http:\/\/www.margaritaengle.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong> Margarita Engle<\/strong><\/a> has an untitled tanka in <em><strong>Solace in So Many Words<\/strong><\/em>, but she is better known for her many award-winning verse books, such as <em><a href=\"http:\/\/us.macmillan.com\/thesurrendertree\" target=\"_blank\">The Surrender Tree,<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hmhco.com\/shop\/books\/The-Lightning-Dreamer\/9780547807430\" target=\"_blank\">The Lightning Dreamer<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hmhco.com\/shop\/books\/drum-dream-girl\/9780544102293\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Drum Dream<\/em><\/a> <em>Girl<\/em>, and, <a href=\"http:\/\/books.simonandschuster.com\/Enchanted-Air\/Margarita-Engle\/9781481435222\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Enchanted Air<\/em><\/a>, which is the winner of many awards, including an inaugural <strong>Walter Dean Myers Award Honor<\/strong>, awarded this past March. Congrats!<\/p>\n<p>Last Mother\u2019s Day I featured poems here from <em><strong>I Carry My Mother<\/strong><\/em> by <strong>Lesl\u00e9a Newman<\/strong>. She also wrote the book <strong><em>October Mourning: A Song for Matthew Shepard<\/em><\/strong> and recently poems from this book have been used in <em><strong>Considering Matthew Shepard,<\/strong><\/em> an oratorio composed by <strong>Craig Hella Johnson<\/strong>. Here&#8217;s how it is described: &#8220;The eighteen stories in The First to Disappear offer a new literature that reflects back to us the rapidly changing circumstances of 21st Century life. Moving, yet often funny, <strong>Patty Somlo<\/strong> performs magic, slipping seamlessly into the heart of hot-button issues\u2014immigration, terrorism and climate change\u2014while borders between nations and the animal and human realms disappear before our very eyes.&#8221; <strong>Yay Patty!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also, <strong>Patty Somlo<\/strong> has a story <a href=\"http:\/\/rkvryquarterly.com\/time-to-go-home-by-patty-somlo\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&#8220;Time to Go Home&#8221;<\/strong><\/a> in R<em><strong>.KV.R.Y. Quarterly Journal<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Donna Hilbert<\/strong> has three poems in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.verse-virtual.com\/donna-hilbert-2016-april.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em><strong>Verse-Virtual<\/strong><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some time ago I came across the poem <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.poets.org\/poetsorg\/poem\/dangerous-girls\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Dangerous for Girls&#8221;<\/a><\/strong> by <strong>Connie Voisine<\/strong> and I was so taken with it that I had to read it for an audience at the next chance I had (which was a reading at <strong>Woman Made Gallery<\/strong>).\u00a0 At the end of March, <strong>Daniel Chacon<\/strong> (&#8220;22 Hiding Places&#8221;) spoke with her on his radio show <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/ktep.org\/post\/words-wire-connie-voisine\" target=\"_blank\">Words on a Wire<\/a>. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Deceiving the gods&#8221;<\/strong>a poem by <strong>Ellen Bass<\/strong> (from her book <strong><em>Like a Beggar<\/em><\/strong>) is in the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jewishjournal.com\/poetry\/article\/poem_deceiving_the_gods#.VucXOAuJEsw.facebook\" target=\"_blank\"><em> Jewish Journal<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I have three photographs in the latest issue of <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/olentangyreview.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">Olentangy Review<\/a><\/strong><\/em>.
