Luna<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sure sign of summer, the pale translucence
\nof the luna\u2019s green wings, the green
\nof emerging blades of grass, or new rose leaves.
\nHow such delicacy battles
\nher way through thunderstorms,
\nclouds, the dust of a dry summer,
\nhow her path is unerring; she returns
\nevery time, not herself, but a replica,
\nsomeone born from her eggs.
\nIn April, too early for lunas, one
\nappeared anyway, flapping at the back porch
\nwindow Let me in<\/em>. Walking outside,
\nI bathed in her greenness, allowed
\nmy eyes to still on her pale greenness,
\ndrink her in without touching.
\nIt was two days after my father died.
\nAnd then, a rose-breasted grosbreak
\ngrasped the railing by the bird feeder.
\nThe luna departed in the night,
\nto repair all damage, but the grosbeak
\nhas stayed. Every few days or so, he
\nreturns, alone. Could this be the spirit
\nof my father, luna, such transparency,
\na grosbeak, so solid, so black and white,
\nheralded with a maroon breast plate,
\nis this how he visits from the afterlife?<\/p>\n

\"4301\"<\/a>Finishing Line Press nominated her chapbook Your Left Front Wheel Is Coming Loose<\/a><\/em><\/strong> for a PEN L. L.Winship Award. It was also a Massachusetts Book Award nominee and so was her other Finishing Line\u00a0 chapbook Rappelling Blue Light<\/em> <\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"84710\"<\/a>Laura is the former co-curator Collected Poets Series. She teaches “As You Write It” class, and edited and published As You Write It, A Franklin County Anthology<\/em><\/strong> volumes I-V, which was nominated for a Massachusetts Book Award.\u00a0 She\u00a0 also has been\u00a0 featured reader at Greenfield Word Festival<\/strong> since its conception.<\/p>\n
