So that\u2019s why this poem by <strong>Laura Rodley<\/strong> about a runner in the snowy woods seems appropriate.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <strong>Laura Rodley<\/strong> for letting me share her work here.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madelyn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She runs without breaking the crust of snow,<br \/>\nsnow two feet deep, slick with ice, even glows<br \/>\nin later sun but that\u2019s not when she runs,<br \/>\nher tracks lighter than deer who break through, shuns<br \/>\nthe main street, dirt though it may be, her dogs<br \/>\nrunning beside her- wolves in jest- the slogs<br \/>\nthrough the deep woods what they all were born for,<br \/>\nthe quiet, the pines, granite slick, the firs,<br \/>\neach mile a link towards the future, a fast<br \/>\nof color breaking through, soft mists rising<br \/>\nor snow still falling, a quilt now sizing<br \/>\nthe path before her, where coyotes pass.<br \/>\nShe runs here daily, holds on, makes it last.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a9 Laura Rodley, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laura Rodley\u2019s<\/strong> work has been nominated numerous times for the <strong>Pushcart Prize<\/strong> and <strong>Best of Net<\/strong> anthologies. In 2013 Laura was awarded the <strong>Pushcart Prize<\/strong> for her poem <a href=\"https:\/\/newversenews.blogspot.com\/2011\/04\/resurrection.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>\u201cResurrection,\u201d<\/strong> <\/a>which originally appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/newversenews.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The New Verse News<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She has two chapbooks from Finishing Line Press: <em><strong>Your Left Front Wheel is Coming Loose<\/strong><\/em>, which Finishing Line nominated for a PEN L.L.Winship Award, and <strong><em>Rappelling Blue Light,<\/em><\/strong> which was a Massachusetts Book Award nominee.<\/p>\n<p>Former co-curator of the Collected Poets Series, Laura teaches As You Write It classes; she has edited and published <strong><em>As You Write It, A Franklin County Anthology<\/em><\/strong> volumes I-V, which was nominated for a Massachusetts Book Award. She has also been featured reader at <strong>Greenfield Word Festival<\/strong> since its conception.<\/p>\n<p>She is also a free lance writer.
