Hello.<\/strong> Happy new month! March is here.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been lazy and indulgent, per usual, but here\u2019s some news.<\/p>\n

Last weekend I went to Sulzer Library<\/strong> in my old neck of the woods and finally met Daniel Cleary<\/strong> <\/em><\/a>in person. It was a pleasure to hear him read his poems, and he finished with a song!\u00a0 I’ve featured some of his poetry (such as “Fireside”<\/strong><\/a> and “More Snow”<\/a><\/strong>)<\/strong><\/a> and paintings<\/strong><\/a> on this site. So glad to shake his hand!<\/p>\n

I got two of his books\u2014The Green Ribbon<\/em><\/strong> (Enright House<\/strong>) and A Few Stray Leaves<\/strong><\/em> by Lagoons Editions<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

BTW, Lagoons Sessions<\/a> <\/strong>take place regularly at The Uptown Arts Center.<\/strong> The next one is Friday, March 16, <\/strong>and\u00a0 features Beatriz Badikian-Gartler<\/strong>, Frank Rogaczewski<\/strong>, Ixtaccihuatl Menchaca<\/strong>, and Elizabeth Marino<\/strong>. The Uptown Arts Center<\/strong><\/a> is at 941 W. Lawrence.\"193371_orig\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Dan Cleary\u2019s<\/strong> reading was hosted by the Tallgrass Writers Guild<\/a>,<\/strong> which means Whitney Scott<\/a>,<\/strong> who works hard for poetry. She heads up Tallgrass Writers Guild<\/strong> and also Outrider Press<\/a><\/strong>, which is known for its black-and-white anthologies.<\/p>\n

The latest call for submissions<\/strong> is on the theme of\u00a0 STARS<\/strong> and the deadline is coming up soon. Check out the details here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The next Tallgrass Writers Guild<\/strong> reading is Sunday, March 25, at 2 pm, and features Susan Zamarow<\/strong>. There’s an open mic too.<\/p>\n

\"This<\/a>Congrats to friend Lynn Sloan<\/strong><\/a> who has a new book of short stories launching today; it\u2019s called This Far Isn\u2019t Far Enough<\/strong><\/em><\/a> and comes from Fomite Press<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

A local poet and musician Larry O. Dean<\/a><\/strong> posted this Emily Dickinson<\/strong> poem on his FB page and I\u2019m swiping the idea since I love to share public domain poems that sound contemporary.<\/p>\n

Oh one more thing<\/strong>, did I mention I have a photo up at The Passporte Fine Art Gallery<\/a>?<\/em><\/strong> Check it out here<\/strong> <\/a>\u2013 it is of a melon in case you couldn’t tell.<\/p>\n
