This Sunday 11/24: Chicago Book Expo

11/18/2013 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

I just made my payment to exhibit this Sunday at the Chicago Book Expo and I encourage you all to come, not necessarily to buy Solace in So Many Words (though I won't discourage that) but to see all the great events planned.  Plus the venue is cool; it's a site from Chicago's Hollywood Days. Here are the facts: When: Sunday, November 24, from 11-5 Where: St. Augustine College,  1345 W. Argyle, Chicago, which was once the site of Charlie Chaplin's historic Essanay … [Read more...]

Somehow it's September.  Are you like me and wondering where the summer went? Well, at least I still have a vacation attitude in that I remain indolent and easily distracted. Contributors to Solace in So Many Words have been busy. I want to remind you again that Jan Bottiglieri's new chapbook "Where Gravity Pools the  Sugar" is out from Finishing Line Press. Daniel Chacón has revamped his website. His next book," is a hybrid of flash-stories and loops in text and … [Read more...]

The Chicago lit scene rocks!

The Pop-Up Bookfair was Sunday at The Empty Bottle and it was a lot of fun. I've been singing the praises of Curbside Splendor Press and will continue to do so. Not only does Curbside have a great catalog, but it has amped up the lit scene in Chicago. Hosting various readings and events, like the Pop-Up Bookfair, Curbside has livened things up and been generous and supportive of all Chicago presses.  And one of the great things is that Victor David Giron and Jacob Knabb … [Read more...]

Chicago news and calls for submissions

I haven’t posted in a long while. We experienced some flooding in the early morning of April 18 and, at first, that took up all my time, then it compromised my Internet connection, and finally it left me a little overwhelmed, not because of loss of property or anything like that, but because I sometimes feel we are already flooded with messages, posts and updates, etc., and I wonder what value comes from another dribble in the stream. But now I am feeling less underwater and … [Read more...]
