This beauty of a decoration is from my bowling partners. We bowled Saturday night and also had our league Christmas party, and for years now we have exchanged gifts. This year we received this gorgeous present and it fits the theme since our team name is da Bears. I don’t think I’ll always leave it on the mantel as I am afraid it might scare young children, but I love it, I do. Sunday I woke up to an email from editor Greg Weiss saying my poem about bowling “Mash Note to a Great Sport” is up on the Intentional Walk Review.
Intentional Walk describes itself as “the only literary journal devoted to the poetry of sports–competition, practice, spectatorship, and following them from afar. From antiquity to the present, we’re interested in anything that involves competition and/or recreation–from yoga to boxing, checkers to basketball.”
The December also features these poems: “Baseball” by Peter Siedlecki and “University Games” by Vernon Wildy and “Football is the Only Game” by G. David Schwartz.
Maybe you have some sports writing, here’s what Intentional Walk Review is looking for as far as submissions (these guidelines are lifted right from its site).
Taste: No restrictions as to form or style, and we take a broad view of “sports”–children or adults, professionals or amateurs, participants or fans, we’re interested in all of it.
Nuts and bolts: Please submit no more than five poems as an email attachment to poetry at intentionalwalkreview.com. Your name, phone number, street and email addresses should appear on each page. Cover letters/bios are optional. Submissions are accepted year-round, and we’ll respond via email.
Update: As of December 2012, Intentional Walk also accepts sports-related creative nonfiction.
