Natural solace

07/21/2013 By Ellen Beals 2 Comments

I am not a dedicated gardener, but I like to have flowers in the yard. At the end of May I went to a local garden shop and bought a bunch of things to plant in window boxes and containers. A nice young woman helped me select the flowers. I wanted some hanging plants but something different than potato vine or ivy. So she suggested these and I went along with the idea, probably not paying too much attention to her description other than it was a full-sun plant and drought … [Read more...]

The Chicago lit scene rocks!

The Pop-Up Bookfair was Sunday at The Empty Bottle and it was a lot of fun. I've been singing the praises of Curbside Splendor Press and will continue to do so. And don't forget we'll be at The Empty Bottle this Sunday for the Pop-Up Bookfair.   … [Read more...]

Hot topics, cool fun

Yesterday all the talk was about the super moon. So I had to get my camera and try to capture its beauty. Take a look at Glimpse of Solace to see how I did. Meanwhile, the poetry world is upset with a recent article ("Poetry Slam, Or, The decline of American verse") in July Harper's by Mark Edmundson.  Because the article is behind a paywall and I am not a subscriber, I was not able to read it entirely.  But I have been reading all the articles about the article.  One of … [Read more...]
