Glimpse of solace: In flight by Laura Rodley

11/08/2016 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

This seems like an apt photo for today, Election Day, where we don't exactly know where we will land. The photo is by  Laura Rodley -- my gratitude to her for letting me share it  here. Laura Rodley’s work has been nominated numerous times for the Pushcart Prize and Best of Net anthologies. In 2013 Laura was awarded the Pushcart Prize (for her poem “Resurrection,” which originally appeared in The New Verse News). She has two chapbooks from Finishing Line Press: Your … [Read more...]

Open House Chicago, 2016

10/17/2016 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

Hello!  Yesterday I visited some of the sites open to the public through Open House Chicago, which is put on by the Chicago Architecture Foundation. Next on our list was the Bath House Cultural Center (1019 N. Wolcott), which is … [Read more...]

Glimpse of solace: Wicklow and Glendalough in Ireland

09/28/2016 By Ellen Beals 2 Comments

I recently had the pleasure of traveling to Ireland. We headed south from the airport in Dublin to Wicklow and Glendalough. I had been there 36 years ago and it rained and rained. The weather was much better this time. Here are some of my photos from our first day. Thanks for looking at my photos -- Ireland is so beautiful that I took a million pictures . . . Peace, love, and solace   … [Read more...]

September break, summer photos

09/02/2016 By Ellen Beals 5 Comments

Happy September! Labor Day weekend is here and summer is over.  Hope you have fun in store for you this holiday. My writing groups are resuming and I have manuscripts due. Summer has provided me with lots of time to play and socialize but I haven't been very diligent. So, I am taking a few weeks off--a staybbatical, so to speak. I'll be back September 23.  In the meantime, I am glad to report my rejection streak has come to an end, with an acceptance yesterday (more … [Read more...]
