Brent will be accepting his award and reading his poem at annual festival's opening ceremony in Atlanta tonight (Friday, June 25) A broadside of the poem will be published by the festival and made available for sale.   Here is what Mark Doty had to say: "This beautiful poem … [Read more...]

Last days to celebrate National Short Story Month and win a book

Weighed Words is participating in The Collection Giveaway Project, which has been organized By Erika Dreifus at Fiction Writers Review. I found out about it from Dan Wickett of Emerging Writers Network. Like the other participating publishers, Weighed Words will give away a book of short stories. We chose Bluebirds Used to Croon in the Choir by Joe Meno because Joe is also a contributor to Solace in So Many Words. As a bonus, a copy of Solace in So Many Words will also … [Read more...]

J. Scott Smith

05/29/2011 By Ellen Beals 3 Comments

I have been a fan of J. Scott Smith's work since I first read it, and this story will show you why.  Originally published in 2009 in a now defunct electronic journal (Pocket Review), "Lynlee Floats" is published here to rescue it from cyberspace obscurity.  J. Scott Smith is a musician and writer from Wilmette, IL, and has published nonfiction articles and stories and is at work on a novel.   LYNLEE FLOATS Lynlee floats on her back in the club pool, the … [Read more...]

Short story collection giveaway–you could win!

05/20/2011 By Ellen Beals 2 Comments

I will get better at posting every day. Lately the blog has been taking a backseat to my other duties as publisher, like working on the e-book and planning the launch and readings of Solace in So Many Words. But I can be remiss no longer, and I will now update the information on The Collection Giveaway contest, and since I missed about twenty posts, I will give you twenty reasons that show short stories are the bomb. Here's the skinny: Weighed Words is celebrating May as … [Read more...]
