Howdy When I wrote Laura Rodley that I wanted to post "Burdocks," she replied that the timing was apt since the burdocks are blooming now. I also asked for photos since I don't have any pics of horses; I was so glad I did because she provided a photo of her horse Cinnamon who is beset with burrs. She also provided photographs from the 90th Annual Chincoteague Pony Penning. If you'd like to learn more about Chincoteague ponies, read Laura's articles "Chincoteague Pony … [Read more...]
News, call for submissions, and what’s “just?”
Jan Bottiglieri has a book of poems out—it is called Alloy and it is from Mayapple Press. Guest Post: Laura Rodley “To Be a Horse”
This essay by Massachusetts writer Laura Rodley gives us an image and rides with it. Reading it makes me think of all the horses in literature and the horse books by Marguerite Henry. Subsequent readings made me think of the present. I know it will make you think too. Thanks again to Lesléa Newman for letting me share her work here. ONE MORE THING My mother crept downstairs at night, (I made believe I was asleep) She didn’t … [Read more...]

Smoking My father’s brand Pall Malls, hands off steering wheel to light his, then flick off searing leaves that stuck to his lip, happened each trip sixty miles per hour, I worried we’d flip over, he contentedly pressed the … [Read more...]
