Dana Awards, Silver Birch Press, Pottawatomi Nation

10/17/2014 By Ellen Beals 1 Comment

We’re on the other side of the middle of October—how did that happen?  Hope the month has been treating you well. There's a call for submissions I want to mention. Through LinkedIn, I heard from Mary Elizabeth Parker creator and chair of the Dana Awards, and she is encouraging you to submit work for consideration. The purpose of the Dana Awards is to offer monetary encouragement for work that has not been recognized. Novels, short fiction, and poetry are considered. … [Read more...]

Today at 9:29 pm is the Autumnal Equinox so I thought I'd share my poem. I 've had  a long dry spell; something like 15 rejections in the past two weeks so I figure I'll publish one of my own poems here. Hope your writing is going well, that your dry spell is short, and that autumn is kind to you. Peace, love, and solace   Autumnal Equinox On a Saturday, wind blowing, sun in a wide sky, this family of four goes to the woods, or what passes for them around … [Read more...]

Settling into September

09/17/2014 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

Not much to report except to say I am finding comfort in routine. My wonderful writing group The Writers has started up again, and my Wednesdays are all about writing, my writing friends, and hearing and critiquing new work. So far Sharon Fiffer and Goldie Goldbloom have moderated. You may know Sharon Fiffer from her mystery books (the Jane Wheel series), the anthologies she worked on with her husband Steve Fiffer, or from their Evanston writing workshops. Also, she's let … [Read more...]
