Fortunately a Facebook friend named Bob Dixon-Kolar made a couple posts that caught my attention this week. One is this passage by John Donne, which is taken from  Meditation 17, from Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions. Donne wrote it in prose in 1624, but … [Read more...]

It’s that time of year when books are celebrated.  Here are three upcoming bookfairs. Currently underway is the Evanston Literary Festival, which started May 4 and goes through May 14. Upcoming events include Zoe Zolbrod tonight at Evanston Public Library to launch the tour for her new book The Telling, just out from Curbside Splendor. 06/06/2014 By Ellen Beals

This is one of Chicago’s big literary weekends with Printers Row Lit Fest on June 7-8. It’s the the 30th anniversary of this celebration of the written word and this year’s featured authors include James Patterson, Marlo Thomas, Walter Mosley and many, many more. NewCity announced its list of 50 Chicagoans who really book. Are you on the list? Maybe not, but it will give you some ideas for new books to read. The Guild Literary Complex threw a 25th birthday bash; one … [Read more...]

Authors’ Showcase at Printers Row Lit Fest

07/25/2012 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

Weighed Words was interviewed at Printers Row Lit Fest. I was the fourth publisher interviewed (and it is pretty apparent that I am new at this). Authors Showcase is a 30-minute cable TV show that promotes new authors and books.  It runs Thursday at 8pm on Chicago Cable Channel 25 or watch all the programs online whenever you want. As Authors Showcase explains, "Our goal is to introduce you to as many new books and authors as we can in thirty minutes. We understand this … [Read more...]
