A book, an essay, and a call

09/21/2015 By Ellen Beals

Happy Autumn! Big congrats to Solace in So Many Words contributor Joe Meno who has a new book (his ninth). It's called Marvel and A Wonder (from Akashic Books).  It's gotten great reviews from various readers, from MTV News to Library Journal. Booklist gave it a starred review: “Evoking William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy, Meno’s suspenseful, mordantly incisive, many-layered tale can also be read as an equine Moby-Dick. As he tracks the bewildering seismic shifts under … [Read more...]

The journal … [Read more...]

Congrats to Philip Levine, our new Poet Laureate

08/12/2011 By Ellen Beals 2 Comments

The big news in poetry is that Philip Levine is the new U.S. Poet Laureate so we want to wish him congratulations!  Two of his poems ("Songs" and "Waking in Alicante") appear in Solace in So Many Words. Our admiration for his writing was the reason we contacted Philip Levine, and our admiration for him grew as we worked with him.  Phil is down-to-earth and approachable, just like his poetry. To learn more about Philip Levine and his latest appointment, you can read his … [Read more...]
