Kathleen Buckland “Pumpkin Stack”

10/26/2012 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

Once again we have Kathleen Buckland to thank for this Glimpse of Solace.  The Glenview, IL, photographer (originally from Northport, NY) loves to travel and to visit the Chicago Botanic Gardens and other spots where she can enjoy the beauty of nature.  Lucky for us, she takes her camera along to document her outings.  Big thanks to Kathy Buckland.   Happy Halloween to all. … [Read more...]

Calling All Book Clubs — Discussion Questions Up on the Site

10/26/2012 By Ellen Beals

Last week I mentioned how we have a new page of discussion questions on our website, but I may have buried the lead.  So in case you did not know, there is a new feature added to the website especially for book clubs. It is the "Discussion Questions" page and you can find it under the "Solace in So Many Words" bar heading on this website. There are questions for every contribution to Solace in So Many Words.  Now book clubs who want to read an award-winning book that … [Read more...]

Luisa A. Igloria — seven poems

10/26/2012 By Ellen Beals 6 Comments

In my last post I introduced you to Dave Bonta, a poet and literary magazine editor from the eastern edge of western Pennsylvania, and his must-read blog Via Negativa, which posts poems, photos, essays, etc.  I also mentioned that there is microblog companion site called The Morning Porch.  Here Dave posts short (140 character) descriptions and poems; these in turn have been used as prompts by master poet Luisa A. Igloria who writes a poem every day mostly in response to … [Read more...]

Two Announcements

10/16/2012 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

First, we've been working to make Solace in So Many Words a good choice for book clubs. To that end, we have added a new page on our website.  It's a drop down link under Solace in So Many Words, and it is a comprehensive list of discussion questions for every entry in the anthology.  You can check out the questions directly here. Some of the questions were suggested by contributors, some were written by Yana Passater, and some were written by Laura Briskman, who then … [Read more...]

Dave Bonta “Ode to Scythes”

10/16/2012 By Ellen Beals 2 Comments

I met Dave Bonta at the AWP Conference in March.  He was working the Motion Poems booth, which was next to my table.  We swapped books and talked a little poetry.  We became FB friends, and I got to learn more about him through his posts, most of which are about Via Negativa, a site I encourage you to investigate.  Dave describes it as a “personal web log with delusions of grandeur,” and also as a “mélange” in which he posts poems, photos, essays and videos, the occasional … [Read more...]
