You can still submit to Crab Orchard Review & Vine Leaves

10/07/2016 By Ellen Beals Leave a Comment

Hey there.  How are things?  I have not caught up since my vacation. My desk is a paper-strewn mess.  And I've yet to go through all my photos. I did take time last night to go to the Poetry Foundation to see Rosellen Brown receive the Fuller Award from the The Chicago Literary Hall of Fame; it was a great event. Before I go tackle my messes, I wanted to let you know that two literary journals are stopping their print productions. One is Crab Orchard Review, which … [Read more...]

Glimpse of solace: Wicklow and Glendalough in Ireland

09/28/2016 By Ellen Beals 2 Comments

I recently had the pleasure of traveling to Ireland. We headed south from the airport in Dublin to Wicklow and Glendalough. I had been there 36 years ago and it rained and rained. The weather was much better this time. Here are some of my photos from our first day. Thanks for looking at my photos -- Ireland is so beautiful that I took a million pictures . . . Peace, love, and solace   … [Read more...]

September break, summer photos

09/02/2016 By Ellen Beals 5 Comments

Happy September! Labor Day weekend is here and summer is over.  Hope you have fun in store for you this holiday. My writing groups are resuming and I have manuscripts due. Summer has provided me with lots of time to play and socialize but I haven't been very diligent. So, I am taking a few weeks off--a staybbatical, so to speak. I'll be back September 23.  In the meantime, I am glad to report my rejection streak has come to an end, with an acceptance yesterday (more … [Read more...]

Guest Post: Laura Rodley “Gateway”

08/22/2016 By Ellen Beals

Gateway Gateway to heaven, Cecropia flits to my doorway, flaps her wings, Morse code from God, life everlasting, she lays her full body against my brass doorknob. Her journey is done, her wings are tattered, she will lay her eggs and disappear. Like all faith, she is ephemeral and falls down from the skies. How did she find me? How did she know I was seeking solace? And she brought a disciple, another Cecropia, much smaller, that lay beside the lit porch … [Read more...]
