When I traveled to New York to receive the Indie Book Award for Solace in So Many Words, I was able to visit the Museum of Modern Art where this painting resides. I admire its simplicity and joy. … [Read more...]

Updates and news: Mahan, Adamkiewicz, Hilbert, Kirk, Langan, Levine (and me)

Due to construction I have been slacking, but not so with Solace in So Many Words contributors. Kathleen Kirk has four poems,  "Daughter of Midas," "Children Again," "Goldfinches," and "Mythology" in Glasschord Magazine (volume 27).  I hadn't heard of this online magazine before but the website explains,  "Glasschord Magazine was founded by a community of emerging artists as an open forum for creative expression. Each monthly issue explores a single theme from a variety of … [Read more...]

Once again we have Kathleen Buckland to thank for this Glimpse of Solace.  The Glenview, IL, photographer (originally from Northport, NY) loves to travel and to visit the Chicago Botanic Gardens and other spots where she can enjoy the beauty of nature.  Lucky for us, she takes her camera along to document her outings.  Big thanks to Kathy Buckland.   Happy Halloween to all. … [Read more...]

Luisa A. Igloria — seven poems

10/26/2012 By Ellen Beals 6 Comments

In my last post I introduced you to Dave Bonta, a poet and literary magazine editor from the eastern edge of western Pennsylvania, and his must-read blog Via Negativa, which posts poems, photos, essays, etc.  I also mentioned that there is microblog companion site called The Morning Porch.  Here Dave posts short (140 character) descriptions and poems; these in turn have been used as prompts by master poet Luisa A. Igloria who writes a poem every day mostly in response to … [Read more...]
